We Still Have Food Allergies

It has been a very busy past couple of months…but long story short, we still have food allergies. Over the past few weeks we have trialed back gluten… again… and we have trailed the big bad dairy. And both food allergies are still ready and raring to go! The typical reaction to gluten was noted – a pretty significant eczema flare up. Dairy caused him to be whinny and have diapers reminiscent of our initial MSPI diagnosis…Yuck! So for now, it is safe to say, our little man still has allergies to gluten and dairy.

Since the trials we visited the Pediatrician for a follow up. She is now leaning towards the idea that these may be life long food allergies for him and advised us to start getting used to the idea of permanent food restrictions. However, remember that his reaction to gluten and dairy was tested as non-anaphylactic, so she said we can trial them a few more times to see if there is a change…which we will definitely be doing!

Bottom Line

I am ok with him having food allergies. Getting to this point has not been easy, but being here now is not that hard. There are wonderful safe recipes that the whole family can enjoy. And I am thankful that there are great allergy menus at restaurants that allow us to get out once in a while. The health benefit of not consuming gluten is not  necessarily a bad thing either.

For The Future

The future with food allergies is the only thing that I foresee may become an issue as he gets older. Like, birthday parties with friends, or going out to eat with friends. Him not having the ability to be super spontaneous makes me sad. However, I will not give up hope!! I will keep trying and praying that his sweet little body no longer gets upset with gluten or dairy.
